Charles J. Pepper or Charles Silas Pepper, Jr. was born on January 30, 1923, in Kampsville, Illinois. He was the son of Charles Silas and Lucy Alba Bunch Pepper. He served in the 633rd Quartermaster Laundry Company during World War II. T/5 Pepper was killed on December 1, 1944, in the bombardment on the coal mine terrain Julia, during the liberation of Kerkrade-Eygelshoven, The Netherlands. He was killed together with 16 soldiers and one civilian. He is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
