Mark L. Varner was born on January 6, 1920. He served in the 633rd Quartermaster Laundry Company as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was killed on December 1, 1944, in the bombardment on the coal mine terrain Julia, during the liberation of Kerkrade-Eygelshoven, The Netherlands. He was killed together with 16 soldiers and one civilian. SSgt Varner is now buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, Auglaize County, Ohio, USA.
