Harold R. Meng was born in 1918 in Wisconsin. He was the son of George Harry Meng and Mabel Meng.

Harold served in the 853rd Bomber Squadron, 491st Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator on the B-24 #42-95191 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 20, 1944, when his airplane took a direct hit from an 88mm shell which blew away most of the nose section. His body was blown out of the aircraft by the explosion, and his remains were never recovered. His name is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupré, Belgium.
