Edward Holbrook was a 24-year-old seaman from Weymouth who served aboard the merchant ship Derby. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Holbrook died on March 9, 1815, with varicola (smallpox) recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
