John Berkeley John Berkeley, aged 24, was born on May 20, 1927, in Monroe, Louisiana, son of William Theobalds Simpson and Annie Ruth Riggs Simpson. He graduated from Ouachita Parish High School and attended Northeast Louisiana State College.

At the time of his death, John was serving in the 2nd Air Refueling Squadron as a Corporal and Radio Operator on the KB-29P #44-83950 during World War II. He was killed in the crash of his airplane at Cairsphairn, Scotland, due to low clouds. His plane was on a routine navigational training flight from Lakenheath Air Base in the south of England to Prestwick. All 11 crew members aboard were killed.

Cpl Simpson is now buried in the Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, USA.
