Joseph Aloysius O'Leary, Jr., aged 32, was born on November 2, 1918. He was the son of Joseph Aloysius O'Leary and Alberta Healey O'Leary.

At the time of his death, Joseph was serving in the 2nd Air Refueling Squadron as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on the KB-29P #44-83950 during World War II. He was killed in the crash of his airplane at Cairsphairn, Scotland, due to low clouds. His plane was on a routine navigational training flight from Lakenheath Air Base in the south of England to Prestwick. All 11 crew members aboard were killed.

1Lt O'Leary is now buried in the Saint Joseph Cemetery Old, Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa, USA.
