Claude Jacques Hayden, Jr., aged 30, was born on October 9, 1920, in South Carolina. He was the son of Claude Jacques Hayden and Kate Duncan Turnage Hayden, and he was married to Frances Garth Wallace.

At the time of his death, Claude, Jr. was serving in the 2nd Air Refueling Squadron as a First Lieutenant and Navigator on the KB-29P #44-83950 during World War II. He was killed in the crash of his airplane at Cairsphairn, Scotland, due to low clouds. His plane was on a routine navigational training flight from Lakenheath Air Base in the south of England to Prestwick. All 11 crew members aboard were killed.

1Lt Hayden is now buried in the Athens City Cemetery, Athens, Limestone County, Alabama, USA.
