Jack Wilfred Kern, aged 27, was born on June 23, 1924, in Dover, Idaho. He was the son of William R Kern and Esther W Kern.

At the time of his death, Jack was serving in the 2nd Air Refueling Squadron as a First Lieutenant and Acting Boom Operator (Instructor) on the KB-29P #44-83950 during World War II. He was killed in the crash of his airplane at Cairsphairn, Scotland, due to low clouds. His plane was on a routine navigational training flight from Lakenheath Air Base in the south of England to Prestwick. All 11 crew members aboard were killed.

1Lt Kern is now buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA.
