Noel Marion Poppoff, aged 22, was born on February 17, 1929, in Minnesota. He was the son of Steven Poppoff.

At the time of his death, Noel was serving in the 2nd Air Refueling Squadron as a Staff Sergeant and Flight Engineer on the KB-29P #44-83950 during World War II. He was killed in the crash of his airplane at Cairsphairn, Scotland, due to low clouds. His plane was on a routine navigational training flight from Lakenheath Air Base in the south of England to Prestwick. All 11 crew members aboard were killed.

SSgt Poppoff is now buried in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA.
