George Jones was a 24-year-old seaman from New Orleans who served aboard the merchant ship Viper. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Jones died on April 30, 1814, with phthisis recorded as his cause of death.
