James Jones was a 27-year-old seaman from New York who served aboard the merchant ship Hussar. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Jones died on May 27, 1815, with varicola (smallpox) recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
