Emanuel Jose was a 20-year-old seaman from Portugal who served aboard the merchant ship David Porter. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Joseph died on November 25, 1814, with pneumonia recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
