Samuel Maurice Aston was born on November 11, 1923, the oldest of the five children born to Samuel Otto Aston and Jessie Marie Carpenter. He had two brothers, Johnny Ray who died when Maurice was three, and Clyde Wallace, and two sisters, Neta Fay twin to Johnny Ray, and Veda Maxine.

Maurice enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 2, 1942, as a PVT and was a member of the 407th AAF Bomb Squadron. He was the Tail gunner on the B17 #42-30821 'The Sweetest One' that crashed near the village of Burton Dassett in England on November 13, 1943.

Maurice was laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
