Ambrose Leman was a 19-year-old seaman from Cartagena who served aboard the merchant ship President. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Leman died on October 24, 1814, with pneumonia recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
