Placid Loveley was a 29-year-old seaman from New Orleans who served aboard the merchant ship Hawke. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Loveley died on November 1, 1814, with pneumonia recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
