Benjamin Harrison Gourley, Jr. was born on January 17, 1922, in Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Vandergrift High School. Prior to entering the service, he was an employee of the United Engineering and Foundry Co.
Benjamin served in the Fighter Squadron, 55th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Fighter pilot. He was Killed in Action on March 15, 1944, aboard P-38J 42-67228, when his airplane was damaged on a mission to Brunswick, Germany. He appeared to bail out of the burning plane, but attempts at locating Gourley failed.
2Lt Gourley is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
