Delorn L. Steiner was born on September 7, 1920, in Wilson, Kansas. He was the son of Joseph Steiner and Doris Steiner.
Delorn joined the 38th Fighter Squadron, 55th Fighter Group on April 12, 1943, as a Second Lieutenant. He was promoted to First Lieutenant in November but was killed in action by enemy aircraft in the Venlo / Arnhem sector in the Netherlands on January 31, 1944, at the controls of his P-38J (42-67711). He himself had won two confirmed victories in aerial combat. First buried in Belgium, his body was repatriated in 1949 to Ellsworth, Kansas, and was buried in the city cemetery.
