Henry J. Tiedemann Jr. served in the 38th Fighter Squadron, 55th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Fighter pilot. On January 23, 1944, he was piloting his P-38J Lightning #42-67777 during a test flight over the Cherbourg area in France when he crashed at Brent Pelham, near Nuthampstead in England. He is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
