Elton Stace Walters was born on December 18, 1922, in Ace, Texas. He was the son of Henry Clinton Walters and Exer Griffin Walters.

Elton enlisted on June 26, 1942, in Houston, Texas. He was serving in the 38th Fighter Squadron, 55th Fighter Group, as Second Lieutenant and Fighter Pilot at the time of his death. On April 12, 1944, aboard #42-67730, 2Lt Walters was hit by flak and his plane exploded and went down in the English Channel. It was hit by at least three salvos from three heavy guns over Ostend Airdrome at 1410 while flying at an altitude of 10,000 feet. He continued for 5 miles after being hit, losing altitude to 7,000 feet when he was ordered to turn toward land. A few minutes later, he said he'd have to bail out because it was getting too hot. Then his left engine caught fire. He made a steep turn to the right, and the aircraft exploded at 3,000 feet. Right afterward, a dinghy appeared behind the airplane empty. No parachute was observed leaving the plane.

2Lt Walters' body was never found. He was declared Missing in Action and is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing, Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium.
