Darril F. Roufs was born on April 17, 1916, in McLeod County, Minnesota. He was the son of Edward Bernhard John Roufs and Catherine Schlagel Roufs. He was married to Idene M. O'Hagen and they had a daughter Mary Katherine Roufs.

Darril resided in McLeod County, Minnesota prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 30, 1943, at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of miscellaneous products and also as Separated, without dependents.

Darril served in the 848th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on the B-17 #43-38131 'Little Miss Mary Kay' during World War II. He was Killed in Action on April 5, 1945, when his B-17 was shot down by German flak boats in the harbor of Middelharnis, Netherlands.

1Lt Roufs is now buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupré, Belgium.
