John Perkins was a 25-year-old carpenter’s mate from New Hampton who served aboard the merchant ship Siro. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Perkins died on November 3, 1814, with pneumonia recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
