Joseph Perkins was an 18-year-old civilian from Massachusetts who was aboard the merchant ship Lacey. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Perkins died on April 20, 1815, with dysentery recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
