Christopher James Cleborne was born on December 16, 1838, in Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, Scotland. His wife was Jane Elizabeth Emma Parker of Philadelphia. They were married on May 8, 1861.
Dr. C. J. Cleborne graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1860. He was appointed Asst. Surgeon, U.S.N., May 1861; promoted past Assist. Surgeon, October 26, 1863; Surgeon, November 24, 1863; Medical Inspector, January 7, 1878; Medical Director, September 18, 1887; retired with the rank of Rear Admiral, November 10, 1899; Director Naval Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia (1888-1891 and 1894-1899), of Chelsea, Massachusetts (1891-1894), and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (January-November 1899).
A retired Medical Director of the US Navy, he died on October 2, 1909, at the age of 70. He is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
