James Ballmer was the son of John E. Ballmer and L.F. Ballmer of Hillsdale, Michigan. He worked for Johnston Bros. in town prior to enlisting in the Essex Scottish. He served in the Essex Scottish Regiment as a Private during World War II. Pvt Ballmer was Killed in Action in the Dieppe Raid in France on August 19, 1942, and he is now buried in the Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery, France
