Edward Powsland was a 45-year-old seaman from Beverly who served aboard the merchant ship Frolic. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Powsland died on June 8, 1815, with mania recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
