Louis Gordon Alphonse was born on May 24, 1921, in Hilt, California. He was the son of Louis Alphonse and Bina H. Eagan Alphonse.

Louis Gordon served in the 359th Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and Fighter Pilot during World War II. On August 14, 1944, he took off from airfield Station 369 in Martlesham Heath, England, on a fighter bomber mission to Reims, France. He was shot down by flak strafing a US motor convoy near Avranches in his P-47 #42-8491. His plane crashed 3km northwest of La Corderie - Cne d'Andouille, 12km north of Laval.

1Lt Alphonse is now buried in the Henley and Hornbrook Cemetery, Hornbrook, Siskiyou County, California, USA.
