John Harding Garlent was born on November 6, 1916. He was the son of John Egbert Garlent and Eva Harding Garlent.

John served in the 360th Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Fighter Pilot during World War II. He was Killed in Action on September 4, 1944, aboard P-47 #42-22469 'Old Master.' 2Lt Garlent's flight was strafing a train in the vicinity of Wetzlar, Germany when the flight was attacked by 4 FW190's, 2Lt Garlent's ship was seen to crash and burn.

2Lt Garlent is now buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan, USA.
