Joseph Obosla entered military service in Illinois. He served in the 360th Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot on the P-47 #42-76431 during World War II.

Joseph was Killed in Action on June 8, 1944, while dive-bombing a train. He took off at airfield Station 369 in Martlesham Heath, England, on an armed reconnaissance mission. During the attack on a train, around 06:00, his plane was blown up by the explosion of its bomb or the train's ammunition. His plane crashed in flames in a small wood and exploded near St-Cyr-Sur-Chars, Lavilletertre, France.

2Lt Obosla is now buried in the Epinal American Cemetery, Dinozé, France.
