Jack T. Smith served in the 361st Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and P-51 #44-15079 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on December 5, 1944. On an operational mission, 2Lt Smith helped engage 60 plus FW-190s in the Berlin, Germany, area. 2Lt Smith chased an FW-190 into the clouds with his Flight Leader. He was last seen pulling out at the top of the clouds at 18,000 feet as his Flight Leader went into the clouds.
