James M. "Bud" Snively was born on May 19, 1925, in Sheridan, Wyoming. He was the son of Hugh Kennedy Snively and Alta Christensen Snively.

James attended the St. Xavier schools except for his last two years of high school when he was a student at Hardin high school. After his induction into the army on Aug. 23, 1943, he received his training at Ft. Gruber, Okla., and Camp Philipps. Was in the infantry. Early in March he spent a six-day furlough at his home and shortly thereafter was sent overseas to England.

He took part in the Invasion of Normandy, the Cherbourg campaign and several other actions. He was promoted to Sergeant late in June and to Staff Sergeant early in July.

SSgt Snively was Killed in Action on August 23, 1944, during the liberation of Vexin in France. He is now buried in the Custer National Cemetery, Crow Agency, Big Horn County, Montana, USA.
