Nathaniel Vaughan was a 28-year-old seaman from Newport who served aboard the merchant ship Ducornau. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Vaughan died on August 31, 1814, with no cause of death recorded. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
