James Hunter Jordan was born on June 20, 1913, in Elon College, Alamance County, North Carolina. He was married to Lois Faye Burton Jordan.

Prior to entering the Army, he was in charge of hosiery throwing for Burlington mills. James entered the service in November 1942 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant with the infantry in July 1943 at Ft. Benning, Ga. He was sent to England in May 1944, receiving his promotion in rank on May 25.

1Lt Jordan was Killed in Action during the liberation of Vexin in France, on August 27, 1944, at the age of 31. He is now buried in the Springfield Friends Meeting House Cemetery, High Point, Guilford County, North Carolina, USA. He also has a cenotaph located in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery, North Carolina.
