Richard G. Hensley was born on January 11, 1921, in Tremonton, Utah. He served in the 324th Bomber Squadron, 91st Bomber Group, during World War II.
On December 31, 1943, as a Mechanic of the B-17 #42-29895 'The Black Swan,' he and his crew took off from Station 121 airfield in Bassingbourn, England, on a raid mission between Bordeaux and Cognac, France. Their plane was shot down by flak and by enemy fighters in the early afternoon. TSgt Hensley and the pilot were killed by shrapnel. The other members evacuated the aircraft by parachute.
TSgt Hensley is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
