Henry Troy Gillespie was born on November 29, 1916, in Coleman County, Texas. He was the son of Francis Henry Gillespie and Hazel Leta Keesee Gillespie.
Henry served in the 392nd Fighter Squadron, 367th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of the P-38 #42-104180 during World War II.
On June 17, 1944, he took off at Station 452 airfield in Stoney Cross, England, for an attack mission to the marshaling yards of Epernon, France. At 2:35 PM, he was shot down by an Me109 fighter, crashing his plane into the commune of Maillebois.
2Lt Gillespie is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
