Frank Elmer McCreary was born at 1211 Chambers, St. Louis, Missouri, to Daniel E. McCreary and Ida Campbell on October 20, 1903. At the age of 16, Frank was a mail carrier for the US government.
Frank enlisted on August 4, 1922, at Little Rock in Arkansas for four years as his first enlistment. He re-enlisted on September 18, 1939, after 16 years. He served on board USS Perch (SS-176) during war patrols in 1941 and 1942. Frank was a survivor when on March 3, 1942, the USS Perch (SS-176) was sunk by enemy action in the Java Sea. He was captured by the Japanese and was taken to the prison camp in Fukuoka, Japan. Frank died of acute pneumonia on January 4, 1943, and is now buried in the Manila American Cemetery, Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines.
