Fred G. Austrom was born on February 13, 1891, in Sweden. He enlisted in July 1917 in Topeka, Kansas, and served in the Air Services, HQ Detachment, 3rd Aviation Instruction Center, during World War I. 2Lt Austrom died from wounds on November 5, 1918, following an airplane accident on November 4 at Tours, France. He was unconscious for 16 hours and never regained consciousness. He is now buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France.
