William Burke Coleman was born on November 27, 1889, in Americus, Georgia. He was the son of Oliver Allen Coleman.

William entered the service in August 1917. He was attached to the Aviation Section of the Signal Corps and sent to Austin, Texas, for ground school training. He embarked overseas with Aviation Cadets, Aero Squadrons in November 1917. He was killed in an accident while testing a French airplane on October 31, 1918. 1Lt Coleman is now buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Macon, Bibb County, Georgia, USA.
