James Francis Greer, Jr. was born on November 9, 1893, in Waco, Texas. He was the son of James Francis Greer and Virginia Lestrappes Lee Greer.

James Francis, Jr. served in the 3rd Aviation Instruction Center as a First Lieutenant during World War I. He died in France on October 21, 1918, and is now buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. 1Lt Greer was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
