Thurman Morris “The Sandwich Man” Gregory was born on April 4, 1895, in Pasquotank, North Carolina. He was the son of Charles Alonzo Gregory and Geneva Sawyer Gregory.
Thurman came to NCSU in 1916 for a degree in Civil Engineering. He enlisted a few days after the US declared war and went to France in August 1917. He was killed in Issoudun, France, after the end of the war. He died in an airplane accident while doing an exhibition flying for General Pershing. Sgt Gregory is now buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France.
