William N. Hewitt was born on December 25, 1890. He was the son of George Ross Hewitt and Nellie Louise Fairchild Hewitt.
William served in the Aviation Section of the Signal Corps in World War I. He was killed in an airplane accident on May 18, 1918, in Issoudun, France, and is now buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, West Medway, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA. 1Lt Hewitt was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
