Ray Clarence Bybee was born on February 23, in Clinton, Indiana. He was the son of Raymond Clarence Bybee and Mina Marie Hedges Nolan. He was married to Catherine Rose Verhonik Major.

Ray was inducted into the service in May 1943 and was stationed at Camp Crowder, Mo., where he received his basic training. He was sent overseas in November 1943 and stationed in England.

At the time of his death, Ray was serving as a Sergeant in Company B, 147th Engineer Combat Battalion. He was Killed in Action during the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, and is now buried in the Roselawn Memorial Park, Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, USA.
