Elmer enlisted on February 8, 1943. He served as a Sergeant in Company B, 147th Engineer Combat Battalion, during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, in France and is now buried in the Monongahela Cemetery, North Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA.
