Thomas George Bur was born on 14 February 1924 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was the son of Joseph Bur and Caterina Cecile Dillon Bur.

Planning to study architecture at War's end, Lt. Thomas G. Bur enlisted in his hometown of Green Bay, WI, on 3 August 1942. Assigned to the 369th Fighter Squadron, 359th Fighter Group, on 11 July 1944, he flew 264:30 combat hours before his transfer on 11 May 1945.

2Lt Bur flew on a group flight with Lieutenants Suttle, Parsons, and Campbell on 28 August 1944 for a strafing mission over Saarbrücken, Germany. Having their objectives been reached, the P51 Mustangs rejoined the formation except for Lt Ferris Suttle. Flying at too low altitude, Lt Suttle's plane hit the top of a tree along the Avenue des Vosges and crashed in a nearby field, killing Lt Suttle.

2Lt Bur died on 30 August 2001 at the age of 77. He is now buried in the Wauwatosa Cemetery, Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.
