Robert Marshall Anderson was born on July 2, 1896, in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He was the son of John Marshall Anderson and Martha Jack Anderson. He was the husband of Elva Mildred Johnson Anderson.

1Lt Anderson was a pilot in the plane that found the location of the "Lost Battalion" during a reconnaissance mission in October 1918.

He died on February 29, 1988, and is now buried in the Rock Springs Cemetery, Rock Springs, Sweetwater County, Wyoming, USA.
