Charles E. Amerson was born on September 11, 1923, in Lynchburg, South Carolina. He was the son of Benjamin Tillman Amerson and Blonnie Mae Byrd Amerson.

Charles served in the 46th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Infantry Division, as a Corporal during World War II. He was Killed in Action on January 19, 1945, during the liberation of Putscheid, Luxembourg. Cpl Amerson is now buried in the Luxembourg American Cemetery, Luxembourg.
