Warren Richard Hastings was born on January 1, 1925, in Illinois. He was the son of Walter Royal Hastings and Edith Gertrude Hastings.

Warren served in the 10th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, as a Corporal during World War II. He was Killed in Action on January 23, 1945, during the liberation of Putscheid, Luxembourg. Cpl Hastings is now buried in the Luxembourg American Cemetery, Luxembourg. He also has a cenotaph in the Wrights Grove Cemetery, Maroa, Macon County, Illinois.
