Born on January 30, 1950, Steven, a dual citizen (USA / Canada), was the son of Lester J. Scott and Freda M. Scott of Chatham, Ontario, Canada. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on March 7, 1967, in Detroit, MI. He arrived in Vietnam on January 30, 1968, and was assigned for duty with Company H, 2d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF. In June, the Battalion was assigned to the SLF (Special Landing Force) afloat, joined by additional supporting units was re-designated as BLT (Battalion Landing Team) 2/7, 9th MAB, FMFPAC.

On July 14, during Operation EAGER YANKEE, Company H was on a search and destroy sweep in the vicinity of the Thon Muc Tru Village complex in the Vinh Loc District of Thua Tien Province when a 105mm artillery round rigged as an AP (anti-personnel) device was detonated wounding LCpl Scott, one of the radio operators. He was medically evacuated to the USS Tripoli, where he died three hours later as a result of multiple shrapnel wounds.
