Joseph Henry Marshall III was born on December 30, 1948, in London, Ontario, Canada. At the time of his death, he was serving as a First Lieutenant and helicopter pilot in the 48th Assault Helicopter Company, 1st Aviation Brigade. On February 18, 1971, 1LT Marshall was fatally wounded in the head by an enemy .51 caliber round.
