Rejean Albert Monette was born on February 28, 1950, in Montreal Region, Quebec, Canada. He was the husband of Diane Riendeau of Des Erables Street, the son of Marcel Monette and Aline Benjamin Monette, and the dear brother of Daniel Monette, all of Montreal, Quebec.
Rejean enlisted in the US Army on February 10, 1970, in Albany, New York, and upon completion of basic and advanced training, he eventually received orders for duty in Vietnam. SP4 Monette arrived in Vietnam on August 18, 1970, where he was assigned to and served with the 60th Ordnance Company, 2nd Ordnance Battalion, 53rd GS Group, Army Support Command Saigon, 1st Logistical Command, USARV.
On March 3, there was an accidental explosion in the munitions bunker at the Long Binh Military Complex in Ben Hoa Province which killed three men. SP4 Monette was one of the casualties, he was killed as a result of sustaining multiple injuries from the blast.
