Thomas Edward Brown was born on March 21, 1946, in Red Deer, Red Deer Census Division, Alberta, Canada. He was the husband of Chong Suk Y. Brown and the son of Greta M. Lester residing with Mr. Charlie Runge of Red Deer Alberta Canada. He enlisted in the US Army and arrived for duty in Vietnam on June 23, 1968, where he was assigned to and served with D Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Calvary, 1st Calvary Division, USARV.

At approximately 0240 hours of the morning of December 2, 1969, the Squadron area at Phuoc Vinh in Binh Duong Province was 8 rounds of the enemy 82mm mortar fire. One round hit the staff NCO living quarters, killing two troopers and wounding twenty. One of the casualties was SSgt Thomas Brown, who was killed by the hostile mortar fire.
